We meet 7:30am at the Soest Garden Fountain, 3501 NE 41st St Seattle WA 98105. Its between the Center for Urban Horticulture building and the parking lot by the Yesler Swamp. The restrooms are located in the Center but it doesn't open until 9am and there is no convenient place to pull off the trail to take a bio break so please stop at a location along the way to use the restroom before you arrive.
The goal is on birding. We will walk together at a slow pace and stop often to listen and search for birds. We'll also identify flowers, trees and reptiles as we encounter them. We'll start with the UBNA trails return to the Center for a restroom break, then continue to the Swamp.
Bring binoculars, a scope if you have one and bird guidebook or tablet/phone with the free apps, Merlin and eBird. Merlin's bird packs are large files and take time to download. Add the bird pack when you have a good internet connection. For eBird add the Washington Bird pack. You can change your bird packs as you move around the world.
Many resident birds are nesting at this time. Most of the migrant waterfowl have left to their northern breeding grounds or are getting ready to leave. We likely will hear more woodland birds than we see since the trees have leafed out making sighting just a bit more difficult for us.
