Ashford location at 8:45. We will further consolidate carpools from here. Park pass or day fee required for each vehicle, along with chains for each vehicle.
Note: leader will be staying down at the Park Friday night, so not returning to town. But will help facilitate carpooling as needed from Puget Sound locales
A classic snowshoe destination, with amazing views of Rainier from our perch on "Castle bump" in the Tatoosh Range. Should the gate not be opening or the opening time quite delayed, or visibility poor, we will switch towards an alternate destination. These may entail added distance and/or elevation gain, and include towards Mildred Point from Longmire or Osborne Mountain from out of Ashford. Flexibility in winter is key! But we will have a good time regardless. Emphasis will be on safety, fun, and building a strong sense of community and team in whatever we do.
Participants should all be prepared to fully participate in breaking trail, navigating, assessing conditions, etc. I will ask that everyone comes equipped with microspikes, and perhaps half of us have shovels. We should also be prepared to carry snowshoes on our packs until they are needed.
Open to those with the intermediate snowshoe badge, scramble badge, climb badge, or intermediate snowshoe students who have ALREADY COMPLETED ALL THEIR REQUIRED FIELD TRIPS.
