Day Hike - Mount Storm King

Coming back from an injury, illness or hiking hiatus? Getting a late start on training season? Come join us for a slower-paced hike to a ridge overlooking Lake Crescent in the Olympics, and if weather permits, maybe a scramble to a very cool lookout.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 3.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,700 ft
  • Pace: 800ft/hr

8:00 a.m. Storm King Ranger Station TH parking lot, Lake Crescent.

We'll take a leisurely pace up the steep, sometimes rocky, rooty ridge overlooking Lake Crescent. Expect to take about 2hrs to get to the top. Pack light or heavy, as your own conditioning dictates. If the day is dry, and you think you might like to do the roped scramble to the top lookout (4mi RT/2000ft), we can talk about that (and bring  your helmet) when we get there.

If people are interested in doing a double Storm King for ~4000ft, we can do a 2nd lap, and/or for those who only want to do 1 SK, we can end the trip at the bottom of the SK cutoff and people can take leave to head home, visit Marymere Falls, explore the Barnes Creek Trail or check out the beach and old-growth paths around the (closed) Lake Crescent Lodge.

If you're joining the Kitsap Alpine Scramble class in April, this is a great way to get a baseline for conditioning.
