Day Hike - Ebeys Landing

This is a conditioning hike for the upcoming backpack season. We'll hike about 6 miles through the forest, past historic sites at Ft Ebey State Park and along the bluff overlooking Puget Sound. On a clear day there are expansive views of the Olympic Mountains and easy access to a sandy beach for those that wish to enjoy life after the hike.

We are NOT hiking Ebey's Landing. We are hiking FORT EBEY STATE PARK. Click links provided for directions or use GPS coordinates.

Participants are asked to carry 10 pounds over their normal daypack weight to assist with conditioning. Our route has one steep but relatively short section.

We will target a 1.5 mph pace carrying 15 to 30 pound packs.  Leader will have a luggage scale on site and a water source is available to make adjustments if needed.  To assist in planning, water weighs 2.2 pounds per liter plus the weight of your container bottle or bag. An empty old fashioned Nalgene bottle is 6.3 oz or almost 1/2 pound. An empty Smart Water bottle is 1.2 oz.

This is also an excellent opportunity to practice navigation with many interconnected trails wandering through the forest and along the bluff overlooking the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. A Gaia track for import is provided and questions are always welcome!
