Cross-country Ski - Mount Catherine Loop (winter)

A classic ski tour accessing Windy Pass, but not making the true loop. See details in Leader's Notes.

  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,800 ft

Issaquah P&R, time TBD, probably in the range of 8am or so...  All drivers' vehicles will need a groomed SnoPark, season or day sticker.

We will start at the Hyak SnoPark, and head out on the John Wayne Trail a bit, to find the marked blue diamond cut-through trail, ungroomed and somewhat rugged depending on snow conditions, thereby accessing the groomed (hopefully) Cold Creek trail.  From here, we will climb up to Windy Pass.  If energy presents, we can ski a loop or so up there, before flying back down the hill.

This is not a trip for beginners, given distance, elevation, and some rough terrain on the cut-through portion of our journey.  Skate skiers are "perhaps" welcome, but will have a very challenging time on this stretch.  Leader has classic skis, with metal edges.

Ugly weather, esp rain, will cause trip to be cancelled or destination changed.
