Road walk snowshoe with three viewpoints of Mount Rainier and lesser peaks. 6"-10" of new snow forecasted this week. This is moderate to challenging in length at 8 miles, 1900' gain. Let's play in the snow. Note: This trip was changed from Dalles Ridge to Snoquera Palisades the day of the trip due to lack of snow at the former.

  • Mileage: 9.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,000 ft
  • Pace: 1.0-2.0

Meet at   8:00AM ---SR 410 and FSRD 72 - gated road.  This TH is located 5.7 miles south of Greenwater, WA on the left (east) side of Hwy 410. Turn left on FSRD 72 and park at the gate.   No pass required.

There will be three viewpoints along the forested road.  There are also two places with small avalanche concern that we will evaluate in the field.  The trip will be canceled or changed if the avalanche forecast for the area is rated "high" during our trip time. Please consider your conditioning for this trip.  An eight (8) mile snowshoe is about the physical exertion of a 12 mile or longer day hike.   Here is the route:  https://www.gaiagps.com/public/qISgBXqGUkkg3pqPyggHEDxL/

Current forecast has new snow falling Tuesday through Thursday, which would make for lovely snow conditions.  Partly cloudy skies on Friday.  Hope you can come.  Rob
