Basic Snowshoe - Paradise Area (winter)

An end of winter snowshoe trip to Paradise area. Specifics based on weather and snow conditions.

  • Pace: moderate, keeping together pace

Whittaker's Bunkhouse in Ashford at 8:30.    We will then consolidate cars to drive into the Park.  All vehicles entering the Park will need a Park Pass to enter, as well as carry tire chains.

If the weather goddess allows, our plan will be a loop trip starting and ending at Paradise.  Whether we head up to Mazama Ridge and north towards, not to, Cowlitz Gap in the event of bluebird skies and minimal Avy risk.  Or head up up Mazama Ridge, and then contour south between trees and open bowls, finishing up with a visit to Reflection Lakes before returning uphill on the Devil’s Dip trail to Paradise in the event of poor visibility.  Or just wander around the trails below Panorama Point including Nisqually Vista and Alta Vista in the event of winds and Avy risk.

Final decisions on all these questions will be made as our trip day gets closer, and will involve group decision making once under way.

If weather conditions indicate that the Longmire gate will not be opening, we may aim instead for an alternate destination, possibly Nordic Pass in the Snoqualmie Pass area or ???

Regardless of destination or route, we will emphasize safety and fun as a group, seeking a "one for all and all for one" group that pulls together for fun, trail breaking, and decision making.
