Basic Rock Climb - Pinto Rock/Bowling Alley

Trip

Basic Rock Climb - Pinto Rock/Bowling Alley

A Basic Rock climb with a very short approach- 4 pitches at ~5.4- South of Randle, rescheduled fro the previous weekend due to inclement weather. First choice of spots (until 9/12/23) given to Olympia students needing a Basic Rock to graduate. This is also an excellent first rope lead for aspiring Rock Leaders- 4 pitches with moderate climbing allows leaders to concentrate and perfect transitions.

  • Basic Rock Climb
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 1.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 400 ft
  • Pace: easy/moderate

TBA

We will be climbing the Bowling Alley route, 4 pitches of very roughened volcanic tuft.  Great views of Rainier, St Helens and Adams (this is roughly the center of a triangle between them).  Most of the route is bolted, but leaders will have a chance to place slings on Chickenheads for  practice and evaluation by their student followers.  There is an "interesting" rappel off the top to end the climb.  Leader permission only, considered a last shot at completing your Basic Rock experience climb for the year.
