Backpack - Suiattle River

Alumni Backpack: We will hike in seven miles and 1000 feet along the Suiattle River among massive old growth trees. The trail intersects the Pacific Crest Trail. If time allows, hikers will have option of day hiking north or south on the PCT. We may have views of Glacier Peak if weather is clear. Please note: spots on this trip are reserved for B3 or Tacoma Intro to Backpacking graduates for the first 2 weeks after registration opens. Open to all Mountaineers on March 30th. Leader Permission Required.

Hikers should be prepared for possible high water crossings and snow patches.  Water shoes are required and hiking poles advised to help with water crossings.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
