Backpack - Ozette Triangle

A 9.4-mile loop divide over three day/two-night backpacking trip with camps a Cape Alava and Sand Point. Come and experience the wild Washington coast. Priority given to Royce and Cristina's B3 group participants.  Contact Royce before May 20 for priority participation.

An entrance fee is required to drive into the park.  options for paying the fee:

One week entrance pass is $30. 

Annual Olympic National Park Pass is $55 payment that is good for one year.

Interagency pass - America the Beautiful Pass is $80 payment that is good for one year.

The backcountry camping fee is $166 plus reservation fee divide by the number of participants.  Wilderness Camping Permits are required for all overnight trips into the Olympic National Park backcountry. The fee for each Wilderness Camping Permit is $8 per person per night plus a $6 per permit fee. 

Trails at Ozette

Trails begin behind the Ozette Ranger Station. Check a tide table to best time your beach hiking.
Cape Alava: 3.1 miles of trail, boardwalk and stairs crosses prairie and coastal forest to rocky beach.
Sandpoint: 2.8 miles of mostly boardwalk leads through coastal forest to a wide, sandy beach.
Ozette Loop: Connect the Cape Alava and Sand Point boardwalk trails by a 3.1-mile hike on
sand and rocky beach for a 9-mile loop.

A bear canister is required for each participant.

  • Campfires are prohibited between the headland north of Yellow Banks and the headland at Wedding Rocks. This includes Sand Point & South Sand Point.
  • Safety Alert! The boardwalks are very slippery when wet or frosty. Soft soled shoes like tennis shoes or lightweight walkers grip the boardwalk better than stiff hiking boots with hard-lug soles. Take your time and walk carefully.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
