  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,000 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-1.75 mph on average

0800 at the DeRoux trailhead.

My goals for this trip are as follows:

1. Be safe.

2. Have fun.

3. Explore the area around upper Esmeralda Basin, Fortune Creek Pass and Lake Ann

My expectations for trip participants are as follows:

1. Follow Leave No Trace principles.

2. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip.

3. Respect all participants.

Trip notes:

Note that this trip starts on a Friday and ends on a Saturday. To avoid the Ingalls TH insanity we will start from the DeRoux trailhead. There is a trail that follows the road and takes us to the Ingalls TH and then we will continue our route into Esmeralda Basin.

We will camp either at Lake Ann or in the bowl at the head of Esmeralda Basin. Possible side trips include Fortune Creek pass and the surrounding ridge for sunset views and/or north along the trail from Lake Ann to Van Epps pass.

This is a no-fire trip, so don't expect a campfire.

There is no backcountry toilet in this area, so you should be comfortable digging a cat-hole to dispose of solid waste or packing out your waste.

When requesting leader permission, if you do not have a Backpack course badge or evidence of trips on your Activity roster, please let me  know about your backpacking experience. I am looking for folks who are committed to doing this trip.
