Alpine Scramble - Stiletto Spur—Pacific Crest Trail Loop

Hock Mtn is our destination. It's trip #19 in Peggy Goldman's Washington Scramble Book, 2nd edition. Please read leader's notes.

  • Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 16.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft

TBD - it's a 3hr drive from the Greenlake P&R in Seattle.  I don't plan on leaving too early.

Sunrise 7am/Sunset 7pm

This trip will be led at a moderate or slightly slower than moderate trip and will only go with decent weather forecast and little smoke.  Hoping some larch may have color.

A report:

I have not done this peak before.  Peggy Goldman's book assigns it skill level 4 (out of 5) and difficulty level 4 (out of 5).

She equates skill 4 as intense and difficulty 4 as advanced and

Day 1: Bridge Creek TH (SR 20 - milepost 159) to camp @ Dagger Lake

using Stiletto Spur Trail & Twisp Pass Trail.

6.25mi/+1900' gain/-900' loss

Day 2A:  Camp to Hock Summit & back to camp (w/day pack only)

Off trail portion

3.7mi/+2300' gain

Day 2B:  Camp to TH

May use the PCT instead of Stiletto Spur Trail on the return
