Trip
Alpine Scramble - Silver Peak
This fun, relatively short, and scenic scramble -- which at this time of year includes all elements of fun off-trail travel (perhaps some lingering snow, rock, brush, route-finding...) -- is only an hour's drive from the Puget Sound lowlands (just barely the other side of Snoqualmie Pass on I-90).

This trip should result in a choice of either Snow or Rock credit for current Seattle alpine scramble students. However, the trip is open to ALL scramblers.
We will meet at 7:30 am at the small park and ride lot adjacent to Exit 22 on eastbound I-90. Those who want to form car pools closer to the city should also plan to meet at Exit 22. Take the exit up to the stop sign, turn left/north across the overpass, at the stop sign turn left/west again (NOTE: cross-traffic and left-turning traffic does NOT have a stop sign -- YIELD to that traffic), then turn left/south again into the park and ride. Leader will be in a grey/silver PT Cruiser.
It takes about an additional 45 minutes or an hour to get to the Easy Pass TH. Forest service parking passes or equivalent are necessary. Done as a scramble from this TH, Silver is a moderate but real scramble. Although the trip starts at the usual Easy Pass TH on the PCT, we will only be on the PCT for a minimal amount of time before diverting through some moderate brush into an off-trail approach to the peak via its north basin. There will be some boulder hopping on the approach and movement on steep rock way-trails approaching the summit.

We will meet at 8:00 am at the WSDOT Travelers' Rest facility located along the Summit Ski Area access road: take eastbound I-90 exit 52 (West Summit); at the bottom of the ramp, turn right and follow the ski area access road east for about half a mile, looking for the gas station and convenience store on the left -- Travelers' Rest is just past the gas station, also on the left. Leader will be in a grey/silver PT Cruiser.
We will plan to leave Travelers Rest no later than 8:15 am. It takes about a half hour to get to the Easy Pass TH. Forest service parking passes or equivalent are necessary for each vehicle.

We will cross back over into the North Basin to exit, but will leave in a different direction which will nonetheless bring us back to the Forest Service road system and the cars.
This will be a fun loop trip which should finish up partway through the afternoon. The current forecast is sunny with a high at 74. The leader will send up a followup email with suggested car-pooling info, etc., later in the week -- Thursday evening or Friday morning.
Thanks for your interest in my scramble!
