Iron & Teanaway Peaks

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Iron Peak

A scramble of Iron peak via a non-standard route up the SSE ridge. This is a trial run for a new scramble course experience field trip route (see leader notes).

  • *Varies*, Strenuous, Technical 2
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 9.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft

A location to meet and carpool/caravan from will be specified in pre-trip communications

Plan is for the group to arrive at Beverly Creek Campground @ 8:00am

Update: open to all for registration.

The entire route is off trail and additional route finding and assessment may add to the distance and elevation gain, so participants need to have solid conditioning (e.g. multiple recent hikes up Mt Si, Mailbox, or the equivalent)

This is a trial run for a new scramble course experience field trip route.  This outing will NOT be run as an experience field trip but there will be a lot of focus on routefinding and we may practice some skills along the way to assess features and locations for potential use during future experience field trips.

This trip will have limited snow travel so will very likely NOT count as a snow scramble.  It will count as a Rock scramble assuming the summit is reached which is very achievable based on non-mountaineers trip reports.  We may practice some snow skills along the way to assess snow fields for potential use at the following weekend experience field trips.

Additional route information will be provided in pre-trip communications
