Successful snow scramble (Mt. Ellinor only), hit near perfect weather window, great view to Hood Canal, nice glissade, bumpy in part.
Short hike to Shi Shi Beach to pick up marine debris.
Successful scramble with all students doing well. Limited views of Rainier and less than ideal conditions for self-arrest practice but all in all a very good day.
A classic alpine ice and snow climb.
Only two years old, this is an moderately easy and peaceful route into a gorgeous river canyon.
A wintry and challenging loop that visited the Tahoma Creek suspension bridge, Emerald Ridge, and the Columnar Basalt near the S. Puyallup campsite.
Seeking more stable conditions we changed the goal from Anvil Rock to Mildred Point.
Weather provided wind fetch and some white waves to learn stability, balance, and build endurance. The inner bay was full of lily pads and very peaceful. Bring wind ponchos since the picnic area is not protected from the wind.
Even on a slightly raining evening we scored a terrific sunset from the Golden Garden stairway.
Tiger Mountain walk from High Point, looking for conifers, ferns, shrubs, and plants.
A short but well-rounded experience for scramble students on (mostly) well-consolidated snow.
Early Spring snow scramble approaching from Pratt Lake Trail
One cancellation, one addition to the trip. All material covered. Great sail with LOTS of wind. :)
Everyone showed up and all material was covered during the dock-side portion of the sail. Two students showed up to an additional sailing portion the following Sunday, and the third showed up for a race the following Wednesday.
There was too much wind in the morning to safely go sailing so we conducted a class at the dock including performing tacks with all the proper commands. We also went over the parts of the boat, points of sail, knots, safety equipment, etc.
