Although the original plan was to climb Longfellow Mountain, the weather seemed to be getting worse, so we turned around at Poe Mountain. However, back at Irving Pass, we decided to give Irving Peak a try, and that worked out well.

The group enjoyed hiking the trail along the shore of beautiful Coldwater Lake. The day provided both the last of the summer wild flowers and hints of early fall color. The lunch stop was at a sandy beach on the north end of the lake.

We squeaked in this excellent hike before the rain with no wind, perfect temps, and no one else on the trail. A very enjoyable day with a fun group on this seldom used trail!

There’s a large variety of activities that can be led out of this destination. i.e. there’s rock gardening to the west or you can paddle less than 4 nautical miles to the east and experience SK-II through SK-V conditions which gives a variety of planned activities. It's excellent place to perform equivalency skills.
