Good to Get Out: Goat Island Mountain
Climbed south ridge, difficult routefinding on ridge, mixed rock and snow, several snowslopes to cross, used ice axe, steep 3rd+ class 250' summit climb, two rappels to get down.
Successful early season overnight climb of Mount Cruiser.
Memorial Day scramble up Mt. Wow from Goat Creek directly up a WSW ridge. We did not traverse south over to the Boundary Trail.
This was a good scramble on a pleasant day, but would have been better with more snow.
An interesting trip with beautiful woods and great views.
Wet weather scotches summit, limits views, but wildflowers abound
Carbon River Road was a really gorgeous hike despite the rain.
Ascended Foss Peak via Unicorn Creek in continuous fog and intermittent rain and snow.
Ethereal alpine flowers glowed intensely in spite of (or possibly because of?) the challenging summit conditions: drifting fog/clouds, wet snow, and cold winds.
This was an unsuccessful but educational attempt of Barrier Peak, which was an alternate to Mt. Ruth due to an unfavorable weather forecast.
We switched the location from Meany Crest in hopes of being drier.
This was a fun route with plenty of teaching opportunities that ranged from route finding, snow travel, hazard management. I’d do it again.
Conditioning hike with rolling hills and a view of Mt. Hood.
We walked Promontory Point and through several of the pond areas looking and listening for resident and migratory birds. The bird activity today was slower than it was two weeks ago. The participants were a pleasure to be with.
Trip was 5/17/19 . A less than ideal weather did not prevent us from safely reaching the summit. Good learning for students on challenging late spring conditions.
A fun evening jaunt with an early rain shower but otherwise dry and pleasant conditions.
