Day Hike - Talapus & Olallie Lakes

Sun, Jul 21, 2019

A gentle hike through the forest on a well maintained, popular trail to Talapus Lake and Olallie Lake. Great for beginners or those who are looking for a relatively easy trail close to Seattle and the Eastside.

Alpine Scramble - Lennox Mountain

Sat, Jul 20, 2019

NF road open, would recommend a high clearance vehicle after crossing Lennox Creek bridge. Off-trail route starts at end of the road as described in listing, no snow on this trip requiring additional elevation gain to avoid brush, approx 500 ft. No water available.

Day Hike - Woodard Bay

Thu, Jul 18, 2019

Not just 3-4,000 bats.....harbor seals with a bald eagle eating an afterbirth, peregrine falcon fledglings hunting for juvenile bats, and about 300 cormorant nests in a relatively new colony across the bay. Plus an intact shed snake skin. This is a fabulous night trip!

Basic Rock Climb - Kangaroo Temple/North Face

Sat, Jul 13, 2019

Managing rope drag is the name of the game for this climb. Breaking things up into shorter pitches would be helpful instead of trying to stretch things out. I would recommend doing 3 single-rope rappels to help reduce the chances of getting ropes stuck. We did double raps and with so much rope flying around on the pull, we got our ropes stuck twice. Other than that, it was a great trip!

Alpine Scramble - McClellan Butte

Tue, Jul 16, 2019

4 hours up to the summit and back to the bottom of the summit block, (where we left our packs). 2 hours back to the car. Rock on the summit was wet on this drippy day, but there are good holds so we took our time and were fine. Trail is amazing nice. Except for a short rocky section, it was like walking on a pine-needle carpet :-)

Sea Kayak - Copalis River Spit

Sat, Jul 13, 2019

We launched at ~ 9:45 am with out incidence from Roosevelt Beach into a shore break that was a little larger than predicted by "Magic Seaweed, (from Westport)". Everyone got thru on the first try, we regrouped and paddled south to the offshore rock outside of Copalis Rock. Everyone joined in the Rock Gardening fun! We then paddled south to the outfall of the Copalis river. We made our way over the bar,a entered the calm, slough. After lunch we again rode some waves before heading back North to our cars.
