A kayak sailing trip in Hood canal with three crossings, launching from the Misery Point boat ramp.
Excellent conditioner - and practice for off trail approaches- but don’t expect to be home by lunchtime using this approach.
Lovely forested meander up to Debbie's view. Rainier was clouded over, so only territorial view at the viewpoint. Did see a prominent large claw mark on a tree, and we debated whether the tree visitor was bear or cougar.
Beautiful evening for a short hike for dinner with a view of Mt. Rainier
zoom meeting to get field trip information to students. And answer questions about gear and meeting plan. It went well.
Road closed till 7am. Extreme avalanche conditions. 9am backpacked toward Grace Lakes to a very safe area. Nice weather, dusting of snow Saturday and Saturday night. A treat to camp in this good snow and good weather. Very knowledgeable group.
We traveled clockwise up the steep switchbacks first. There was between 6-8 feet of snow and snow was a nice powder until the descent on the Wonderland trail where it started to become slushy at temps warmed the snow. Overall it was a really good trip.
We launched from Arcadia and paddled in a counter-clockwise direction around Squaxin Island.
Pleasant, calm weather in the low forties, many other people on the popular sections by Mt Erie and Sugarloaf. Very little masks being worn, unfortunately. A very great group of fellow Mountaineers on this hike today that I hope we see again.
Good day with weather and snow once we got to Plain. Heavy snow and wind at Stevens Pass.
Close-in hike with a good workout and some beautiful woodland streams and scenery along the way. At the peak there is a bench and community notebook for sharing thoughts.
Cross Country Skiing at Mt. Spokane State Park is a perennial on my annual Ski Bucket List. Why? Panoramic mountain range views and great ski trails. Mt. Spokane Nordic Ski Park is a skier's delight.
Extreme avalanche conditions. Roads OK, when not closed for avalanche control. High wind and heavy snow forecast, so we camped in a low and protected area about half way to Grace Lakes. Nice snow camping trip. Everyone had fun and learned a lot.
Covid Zoom meeting. Patrick ran the slide show and instrucetd parts. Tim did most of the lecture. Chris helped out too. Students seemed to feel confident at the end.
This is a good, non-technical snowshoe for fit beginners. The road takes you to fine views at 4500', with a short excursion to the pretty lower lake basin. Limited avalanche exposure.
Great paddle with some challenging conditions. Fully explored Rocky Bay and Vaughn Bay and circled Stretch and Reach Islands.
A snowy hike to an alpine lake with some surprising views for the day.
