Surprise gate opening at Longmire for 6 eager snowshoers heading to Narada Falls. We enjoyed being the first on the trail since gate had been closed all week. We were reminded that breaking trail through 8 inches of fresh snow is a workout.

A lovely loop through forest and meadow in the Mazama ski area, with a mix of green (easy) and blue (intermediate) trails.
A fun set of loops, Bitterbrush and Barnsley Lake, a short distance down from the Winthrop Town trailhead.
10 hikers enjoyed a mellow, dry morning and 19 bird species looping down North Trail and up South trail, with four tacking on a bit more mileage in the NE corner of the park. Pileated woodpecker and golden mushroom were the highlights, along with common mergansers and common goldeneyes.

Successful winter scramble of Red Mountain via the Salmon La Sac approach, reaching the North Peak due to soft snow, terrain traps, and late-day timing. Warm temperatures, deep unconsolidated snow, and careful route choices defined the day.
This December monitoring walk was a collaborative venture between the Section 7 and Section 10 stewards. Partnering for this 6-mile stretch—featuring 529 feet of elevation gain—provided an excellent opportunity to share perspectives on trail safety and ensure a seamless continuity between these two vital West Seattle segments.
A fun solstice romp from NIsqually up to Point Defiance. Swans, porpoises, sea lions and seals were viewed along the way.
A beautiful winter day to ride the currents in Hammersley Inlet and explore the depths of Oakland Bay. Mostly calm conditions and swift currents to push us along provided ample time to poke around the bay.
