An extremely interesting (and strenuous) traverse with an intense variety of terrain, plant life, and geology: the hidden valley on the northern aspect of Tamanos, the unique conditions below the stagnant Sarvant Glacier, the brilliant colors around the Cowlitz Chimney peaks, and the expansive meadows west of Banshee (with Summerland as a bonus).
Planned on East Ridge, changed to South Ridge due to recent rain.
Wonderful single day climb of Whitman Crest via the Fryingpan Glacier.
Forecasted conditions for Chuckanut led to a change in venue for today’s paddle. Instead, we made the same length trip in the calmer waters of Penn Cove. While the wind was light for most of the paddle, it increased steadily in the afternoon and we had a fairly constant 10+ kt blow on the last 40 minute leg of the trip. All in all, some good practice with boat control in wind and waves.
This was a really fun trip, racing ahead of storm fronts with fast currents, some rough spots and lots of wildlife viewing! Photo credit: Steve Intelmann
Successful climb of Mt Baker via Easton Glacier
Gorgeous day for the 6 of us to climb Slippery Slab
Shuksan from High Camp with photos and coordinates for the solar toilets!
Successful one-day climb of the West Ridge of Forbidden Peak.
Strenuous 1-day climb of Mt. Daniel involving thoughtful navigation and high hopes to access the Lynch Glacier
Sunshine, porpoises, orcas, and good times! A great overnighter raft-up with four vessels in Manzanita Bay.
Good tread, super views, almost no snow on the route and a short easy scramble from the hiker's summit.
10 scramblers had an enjoyable day on Bryant Peak, although smoky skies limited the views.
Launched from the boat ramp at Conner Waterfront Park and paddled down the Swinomish Channel to Goat Island where we took a short break to explore the ruins of Fort Whitman. Continued counterclockwise around the island then headed east along the south side of the jetty and cut back to La Conner through the fishway. Waves from lots of motorized boat traffic provided plenty of fun along the way. Saw many eagles, blue heron, harbor seals and a few kingfishers.
Cancelled because of wildfires in the area.
