This is a challenging but very rewarding scramble to a seldom-climbed summit not far from the Hannegan Pass Trail. It's a very prominent peak and the summit (7020') views are even better than those from Hannegan Peak (6160').

McLoughlin is a fun, relatively easy scramble with a satisfying summit, and is definitely worth the long drive. If you go, take a couple of extra days to bag some of the other local peaks in southern Oregon and maybe northern CA.
Solitude and beautiful basins in the NW corner of Mt Rainier Park, along with an all-woman party, made for a successful scramble of Second Mother.
