Crew was successful learning and applying basic skills on a medium weather day! All did well!
Wildflowers put on a good show! Steep trail, especially near the peak. Windy up on the ridge. Trail in good condition.
This day hike on the Upper Dungeness trail to Camp Handy was part of the new Olympic River Rambler series, offered through the Tacoma Hiking & Backpacking Committee.
What started out as a splendid day on the river turned into a long slog with several unpleasant nuisances on the lower half - several portages, gun shots, buffeted by wind and dirt on the last mile. No longer one of my favorite class II runs and probably won't repeat it again.
Beautiful evening for a hike to a dinner spot with a view.
Great hike for getting some workout done. Both uphill and downhill has some steep sections testing our balance and stability.
Successful winter scramble of Moolock mountain in middlefork on apr 13 with bicycle approach and snow shoe to the saddle and summit
Fun trip despite water level close to minimum. Group dealt well with some complicated swims.
Perfect evening for a hike to the falls.
This amazing backpacking adventure with a group of hardy and stalwart Mountaineers Global Adventures included a visit to Tierra del Fuego national park, an 8-day sometimes soggy backpack along a very remote route crossing from northern Tierra del Fuego down to Ushuaia (52 miles, 11578' gain, 11798' loss), and then a cruise in the Beagle Channel to see penguins! Much of this route is off-trail with bogs, lots of log crossings and forest thickets, and steep boulder and scree ascents and descents. A highlight was two nights at a lakeside cabin with amazing food, warm beds and plenty of music and joy! Guides were provided by Compagnia de Guias Patagonia out of Ushuaia. Recommended to do this with guides as the trails aren't always well marked and it is handy with the constantly changing weather to have options to call for transport and to use trailside shelters. Packs ended up quite heavy with overnight gear and food so it would be recommended to organize porters the next time (though they are expensive in this part of Argentina). This trip report was written on behalf of the trip leader Shuko Hashimoto.
A great group of Mountaineers Global Adventurers trekked to viewpoints in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier, Monte Fitzroy and Cerro Torre in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park before trekking a circuit around Cerro Huemul high above the South Patagonian icefield and iceburg-dotted Lago Viedma - total miles 53, total elevation gain 11662 feet. The route includes three tyrolean traverses, a flat glacier crossing, and several steep to extremely steep boulder and scree ascents and descents with a few that required use of hands, veggie belays and guide help. Guides are strongly recommended for food support, use of fixed dining facilities, carrying of heavy gear, provision of 4-season tents, and assistance on the tyrolean traverses and steep terrain. This trip report was written by Cheryl Talbert on behalf of the trip leader Shuko Hashimoto.
Solo day hike to Green Mountain from Gold Creek Trailhead. There were no issues at all besides an unexpected rain shower.
Due to conflicting weather forecasts, variation in paddling abilities and the possibility of 19 kt gusts starting in mid afternoon I changed this trip from the original 16 mile paddle from Sunnyside Beach to the shorter 12 nm from Titlow. It only took us an hour coming and going the 6 nm each way which is I think the fastest time I have had on this trip. All paddlers performed very well with excellent group dynamics.
A quick trip to each of the three West Tiger summits on a day with a questionable forecast. We all completed and stayed dry!
IMO this is one of the prettiest trails on the I-90 corridor. Today was especially energized by the snowfall. Dirty Harry's Museum was today's destination.
