First quarter stewardship walk with a good sized group.
On a beautiful sunny mid-February Tuesday, 11 of us enjoyed 42 bird species including trumpeter swans, bald eagles, wood ducks, and a hooded merganser male that delighted us all.
Road walking on snowshoes for a bit around start (lodge) and end (lake). The rest of the trip was cross-country though the woods.
Amabilis Mountain – Low Snow Winter Ascent from Cabin Creek
A rainy winter paddle with mild temperatures and light to moderate winds.
Exceptionally mild weather for this winter trip made for a great paddle around this beautiful island. Striking waterfalls, eagles, seal, sea lions and lots of shore birds were among the attractions enjoyed by the group.
Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks used to say about baseball doubleheaders, it’s a beautiful day, let’s play two. On a beautiful day for an urban walk; our doubleheader included sections 11 and 12 of the Olmsted circuit.
Pretty good, dry, calm day up Icicle Ridge.
Despite it being January, a very late spring/early summer condition scramble of Humpback Mountain
Soggy day for a Stewardship but volunteer enthusiasm remained high. Blackberries removal and meadow trail creation were our tasks for the day.
A great workout and commute, with sunshine on the descent. A nice opportunity to gauge snow conditions on the cascade crest (further to the east) on this 5300’ gain, 13 mile outing. Lead photo by Jesse Bengtsson.
Awesome day surfing sea kayaks and surf boats. Best waves were at the north end of the beach in the river mouth. The group looked out for each other and easily facilitated the one rescue.
Lovely overnight snowshoe near Blewett Pass, with our snowshoes on our backs for most of the trip. Bobcat and cougar tracks (yikes!) and views of the Stuart Range.
8 of us (and Ajax!) enjoyed beautiful spring-like conditions with plenty of birdsong, a flooded wetlands view of the beaver activity, and a remarkable bank of fog at the base of the Olympic Mountain range.
We became very proficient in taking our skis off and on. Very thin coverage and frequent brown spots. The snow became very soft and slushy in the afternoon. We did ski and had a great time.
In light of conditions -- went to Summit East
A warm, rainy scramble with intermittent snow and a very brushy north ridge ascent. Efficient travel, straightforward route-finding, and a sheltered summit made for a solid outing despite wet conditions and limited views.
