Late-summer trip via Beverly Turnpike trailhead. Usually not very challenging this time of year, but intense weather conditions on this date made it a fairly challenging scramble.
Worked on various skills/applications to work with and around fast currents and active water.
Beautiful hike on a great weather day.
We were able to summit Osceola, Blackcap and Lost Peak in 4 days. Cut the trip short due to a fairly powerful weather system and left Lago and Carru for another trip.
RT from Fair Harbor. Explored south side of Brooks P to Grassy Island off Rugged Point and all islands, islets and coastlines in between and a lunch in Kyuquot Village. 2 nights-Bunsby Islands, 2 nights - Mission Group, 2 nights - Brooks P, 2 nights-Rugged Pt, 1 night ea in Fair Harbor and Campbell River.
Well-maintained trail in the soaking rain. Leader chose to turn the group around once the misery index exceeded the is-this-really-worth-it index.
4 scramblers had a good time climbing Tahtlum Peak despite rain and wind.
We planned for a 3 week expedition-style ascent of Mt. Foraker via the Sultana Ridge Route. Given a warmer than usual winter (thanks ENSO), we were unable to gain access to Mt. Crosson - the entire flank of the mountain was melted out, so ascending on snow was impossible.
This was a relaxed easy going backpack to a fantastically beautiful place. No bugs, perfect weather, beautiful lakes, and great people.
Successful trip up the Hayden Glacier to the summit of Middle Sister.
A two day attempt of Overlord peak.
One day scramble of Old Desolate from the Carbon River trailhead.
Perfect timing and weather for a one day ice climb of Observation Rock
Fun, true scramble: starts on nice trail with significant off trail heather, rock slope traverse and boulder gully terrain.
It was a well led outing to a spectacular location. The participants were also a great group to travel with. This outing was my first hike with the Mountaineers. I look forward to signing up for more in the future. Thanks to Brian for leading my first trip .
Just when we thought the summer was drawing to a close, we managed a fantastic five-peak link-up, netting 6200' elevation gain over 14.5 miles.
Very steep, scrambly trail that leads to a spectacular lake basin in the southeast corner of the Olympics.
A wonderful scramble with a bit of everything: rock, scree, boulder fields, brush bashing, tarns, views, ridge runs, glorious meadows, and blueberries and huckleberries everywhere. Everyone on the trip was surprised that this scramble, so close to Seattle, so glorious, is done so seldom that it is still pristine.
