Spectacular day with the summit area empty except for our party.
Pleasant trip with a bit of wind and wind waves to deal with.
CHS1 hike on August 3, 2019 with 12 participants
McLoughlin is a fun, relatively easy scramble with a satisfying summit, and is definitely worth the long drive. If you go, take a couple of extra days to bag some of the other local peaks in southern Oregon and maybe northern CA.
Solitude and beautiful basins in the NW corner of Mt Rainier Park, along with an all-woman party, made for a successful scramble of Second Mother.
The views from the summit are amazing, but it takes a lot of brush-whacking to get there. This is a mountain that is easier to climb in the winter, when the snow covers the brush, but winter climbs usually terminate at the false summit, where the views are still wonderful, but not as fantastic as at the summit.
A strenuous 2-day carryover with a 3-day worth of ballast.
A fantastic day for a really scenic hike. Lots of bangs for the buck including two alpine lakes, an old fire lookout with fantastic views of Mount Rainier, wildflowers and even a small black bear sighting!
A fabulous reunion trip for the Cokus/Shih SIG
July flowers were blooming. Windy and a bit cold at the look out
Rarely done Vesper wolf and sperry traverse. Great snow conditions and an awesome rock scramble with exposure on Wolf peak. Route finding always a puzzle on Sperry.
Great trip with multiple objectives. Advised for stronger groups which can do it in 8-9 hours round trip. Or liesurely groups to do it in 11-12 hours. Great area to take the time to tag all three.
Nice and sternuous trip recommended for fit parties. Beautiful meadows, thick vegetation and bugs didnt deter us from bagging 5 official peaks and 3 sub peaks along the way. Could save time and energy if done a key exchange from carbon river trail
While there were clouds and showers to the west of us, we climbed Skookum (aka The Louvre) in sunny weather. We did have some wind, but that was good because it kept the bugs away.
Great group on a nice summer evening hike on Little Si. Saw lots of beautiful ferns, climbers on rock, and reached the summit during the golden hour. 3 hours from car to car. One member was unlucky and got stung by a wasp near the summit through their sock. All in all it was a pleasant short hike after work.
A two day successful climb of the West Ridge route on West McMillan Spire. Tacoma Mountaineers group of five: Jeff Wirtz, Lance Garland, Jason Leubner, Spencer Kirk, & Jonathan Foster.
Long trip that scrambled Howard Peak, Rust Ridge, Alki Crest, and Florence Peak
