At the end of the snowshoe, there was some questions about the two peaks visible to the west of the parking lot at the Sno-Park. Based on the compass bearings I shot, I believe the peak on the left is Tinkham Peak - East and the peak on the right was Silver Peak.
Strenuous winter scramble from Carbon road. Enjoyed a wonderful bluebird day in seldom visited area of rainier in winter.
Beautiful, clear day with pleasant temperatures and snow conditions. Views of Adams, Hood, St Helens, Little Tahoma, the Tatoosh range and, of course, Rainier.
Excellent trip. temperature, snow conditions, strong individuals, all made for a fun and fulfilling outing.
Beautiful day to discover Meany Lodge
Party of 9 successfully summited Prat Mountain on 1/14/17.
Great mid-week practice session in closed ski area.
A beautiful winter visit to the Barnes Creek/Aurora Ridge area including a stop at Marymere Falls.
A pleasant day out on a straightforward route.
Knowing that a major winter storm was approaching, we chose Pratt because most of the route is protected from winds by trees, it has low avalanche risk, and it is on the west side of the pass in case the pass closes due to snow and ice on the roadway.
Great trip! Great excersize! Great leader! Barbra was very informative with hiking skills and nice to be around.
Great Trip. Car Pool logistics are precisely arranged, Launch, play time in bumping area were well timed, which we all enjoyed; though one young guy capsized but rescued well.
The High Lakes, a collection of small lakes (flat areas in the snow, to be honest) provide an interesting variation on the usual marked trails in the Paradise/Mazama Ridge/Narada Falls area. Untraveled snow and an excellent view from Faraway Rock add to the interest.
Frosty morning enhanced the beauty at this lovely preserve. The brisk air and sunshine on a 20+ degree morning seemed to motivate everyone to keep moving as we meandered about removing tree protectors at the further most boundary. A nice workout with a purpose.
Extremely cold day. Changed to loop route visiting Hyak lake. 6 participants showed, only 3 with current active membership, the other 3 had "lapsed", but very experienced & qualified. Brilliant sun, splendid snow, great trip.
Great trip with fantastic formations of ice-encrusted trees.
Excellent choice for a windy day as this route is almost entirely in forested terrain except for the final few hundred feet. Excellent view at the end.
Crampon skills and conditioner for scramble graduates.
We had sun breaks, icy trails, fresh snow, and a summit in the clouds - what more could you ask for?
