My friends and I decided to cancel our South Coast Wilderness backpacking trip due to the rainy forecast and look for day hikes to fill our time. My friends hadn't been to Otter Falls before so it was fun to share a new trail with them.
Six of us enjoyed this lovely hike enjoying Mother Earth and celebrating Mother's Day along the beautiful Big Quilcene River.
This was just a wonderful trip: Skagit Island was as good a camping spot as I had hoped it would be and is going head to head with Blake Island as one of the supreme jewels in our lovely Salish Sea to head for in a kayak!
Nice afternoon hike to explore the forested trails at Dash Point State Park
My dog and I enjoyed 27 bird species on a 3.25 mile "Goat's head" (from GPX track) clockwise loop along the perimeter of both parks with excursions into the Creek area.
The backdrop of the snow covered Olympics was stunning at times as the clouds cleared out. The waves and swell were about as small as you can get here and the water was clear with good viewing down below.
A winter route ascent with snow scrambling from 4300' to the summit.
A great day (if a bit windy) paddling past sandy beaches, basalt cliffs and quiet sloughs.
8 of us enjoyed 47 bird species on a 4-hour birding adventure. Our 5.5 mile excursion included overgrown paths which meant an overflow of resident and migrating birds!
Beautiful but steep hike, amazing views of the Stuart Range, rattlesnakes
Lovely wildflower hike with decent elevation gain on well marked trail
8 students completed their snow scramble. Our trip got interesting due to an unexpected thunder shower.
A hike through the woods to two waterfalls and a view.
After an unfavorable weather forecast at our original destination, two leaders and four students pivoted to Iron Peak, and everyone enjoyed the better weather and beautiful views.
Excellent spring outing
2 of us enjoyed a private Mother's Day outing to Discovery Park to enjoy 40 bird species including Pigeon Guillemots, Caspian terns, bald eagles, orange-crowned warblers, and bald eagles among fountaining geoduck sprays.
Great hike with the added bonus of watching paragliders take off. The trail was in good condition and pleasantly uncrowded — We only passed a few other hikers on the way up and down.
Steep snow scramble guarded by a grouchy grouse. Fun day on the mountain with a great group.
Very nice views from the summit with a lovely crowd.
