Lots of solitude from the shore of Lake Crescent to Aurora Peak on this ~9 mile/~5000’ gain trip. Pristine views of North Fork Soleduc valley and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
We hiked up the trail to Rattlesnake ledge, where we enjoyed the views then traveled back to the trailhead and walked the mostly level trail around the east side of the lake to the Cedar River Watershed Education Center and enjoyed the rain drums while eating lunch. We learned about the historic town called Moncton, build in 1906 and flooded in 1915.
Opted for only half of the Shelton shuttle, but had a great day just the same.
This was a really nice gentle class III on a mild day with lots of wildlife activity. An eagle's aerial display made it special. Photo credit: Will Wade
A great MAC climbing trip to Vantage. A great time for students, chaperones, and volunteers and anyone else involved.
Successful summit of Mildred Point on a calm, beautiful winter day.
Winter arrived this week. Just not here.
Deep soft snow above 5000 ft, but we left you a nice snowshoe track! No avy danger on this route; interesting burned forest going up.
We got many trees planted and had a fun and productive morning.
We had about 5 volunteers and got many trees put in the ground. It was fun and productive.
Mountaineers Adventure Club (MAC) trip - What was to be a backpack trip turned into a day hike with lots of training weight / car camp. Fun was had by all. The group camped at Vantage the following night, and then motored over to Exit 38 for some cragging the next day.
First time attempting the tooth, very low visibility and little to no boot tracks made route finding difficult. Broke over the clouds reaching pineapple pass made for a more enjoyable but still blistering cold ascent of the south face, climbing in boots and gloves, many cracks/holds filled with snow and ice making this 5.4 slightly more intimidating. Ultimately we ended up turning around at the base of the last pitch due to a system rolling in over the mountains and light fading fast. An exciting day, seemed to be the only ones up there in a while, and maybe for another while as the winter weather has seemed to really kick off. Great climb!
Views would have been quite spectacular had we had a clearer day. Sketchy summit with conditions like this.
Just a taste of Winter. Snowshoes not required.
A very strenuous/beautiful traverse of Mt Ararat, Satulick Mt and Rampart Ridge with ~4,400’ of gain over ~15 miles.
