A sub 24-hour overnight, off-pavement Bikepacking tour of the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail from Cedar Falls Trailhead to the Cold Creek Campground on Keechelus Lake.
Keyport marina is a good launch spot. Consider going on a strong ebb and returning on a strong flood like we did (near Full Moon, or New Moon). Stopped at Bloedel Reserve natural waterfront for lunch.
Four families enjoyed a two night trip to Greenwater Lakes, which included fishing, day hikes, water play and a nice escape.
Mount Rainier’s Sunset Park, the very best place to see two kinds of sunset: the sun setting over Puget Sound, as well as its rosy glow on the western slopes of Mount Rainier. We had ideal conditions which included a scramble to Point 6718 as well as blueberries and numerous wildlife sightings (Black Bear with cub, mother Grouse with chicks).
Successful 2-day climb to a remote peak with a great group.
Just a terrific day (except for the mosquitoes) to scramble 2 of the Mt. Rainier 100. Six Olympia scrambling students successfully completed a rock scramble as they work towards graduation
Successful summit via the gully
We had clear weather and 360 degree vistas from the summit. Plentiful flowers along the trail. This made for a happy mood in our group. But it was a 3 hour drive to the trailhead and the trail had one washed out section, some blowdowns, and a missing trail junction sign. Trail crews were working on the trail.
This was a very enjoyable scramble of Paddy-G0-Easy North, with a quick side trip to the overlook of Sprite Lake.
Figure-eight circumnavigation of Stretch and Reach Islands and view of Victor Petroglyph
Extreme heat on approach. 90+ Ended up doing Ruth only.
Very well maintained trail, very hard to get lost due to the numerous trail signs. A good candidate for summer after-work hikes!
A warm evening hike in a beautiful wood.
A wonderful 2 day climb of Mount Baker via Easton Glacier during a heat advisory. Great conditions on the glacier and summit. The Kitsap Basic climbers sure smiled a lot!
A one-day climb of Mount Baker via the Squak Glacier.
I have another week on sunny Ross Lake to dream about this long, dark and cold winter. Photo credit: Terry Jaret
Great views and a variety of route options! Get there early for campsites.
A scramble loop up Kaleetan's east face "White Ledges" and down the south route
Pivoting from the inland Olympics to the South Coast due to the heat wave, our small and very fun group had a great time exploring the tide pools and forests.
