Great trip! Good group. Good leader. Good planning. Good weather and water. Can't ask for anything more!
Great weather and smooth water made for a pleasant paddle around the eastern part of the Deception Pass area with several mild introductions to current for students on the trip.
Nice spring hike. Trails clear and in good condition. Wildflowers in bloom.
From peak, clear views of Dirty Box Peak (walk to end of peak ridge), Mt Rainier, and mostly-frozen Upper Granite Lake below. McClellum Butte views on the ascent.
Backpacked Prince Creek to Moore Point camp day 1, Moore Point to Purple Point camp at Stehekin day 2, hike up Purple Creek trail day 3, hike up Stehekin road day 4.
Successful 1-day summit climb during the first warm-up of spring.
We hiked the "Four Summits Loop" route as described and really enjoyed it. It was mostly in the forest, with lots of ups and down (and one more serious climb up Mt. Erie). We had lots of avalanche lilies and great views from Erie's tower viewpoint (see photo).
An unexpectedly gorgeous (yet very warm ;) outing with stunning views of Baldy, Gray Wolf Ridge, Walkinshaw and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This ~16 mile/~5000’ gain workout had an obvious stopping point (47.93758°N 123.31260°W, just shy of avalanche terrain) where the fine art of ‘snowshoe snoozing’ was honed to perfection. Circumnavigation of Squaxin Island, leaving from and returning to Boston Harbor Marina, with mid-way lunch on Hope Island.
Sail training #2 was a success. Beautiful day on the water with 10 knots. Students were engaged and asked lots of great questions.
Good initial student scramble, very avalanche safe as noted on prior trip reports. Good conditioner close to town.
Great early morning ski tour to Camp Muir with a descent of the Nisqually Chute. Pivot from Mt St Helens ski trip due to weather and avalanche considerations.
Half a mile of the trail between Happy Four camp and Olympus Ranger station is washed out/under the water.
