In the fog, we hiked the loop from Sunrise to Frozen Lake, to Shadow Lake and back to Sunrise. The clouds gave an eerie feeling to the landscape.
A return journey to Yellowjacket Tower with three strong climbers delivers all the classic challenges - loose gully scrambling, exposed climbing, and demanding route finding - while offering new lessons in humility and anchor maintenance on this demanding Beckey route.
Turned around at the trailhead due to poor air quality.
The original plan was to go around Burrows and Allan islands but the forecasted wind and wave conditions there would have been too sporty. I looked for some less energetic areas and settled on Chuckanut Bay which turned out perfectly. Congratulations to Isaiah from this year’s Basic Sea Kayaking course on completing all his student paddles to qualify for his Mountaineers SK badge!
Fun 9.3 nMi round trip EMSK paddle with three crossings. Starting and ending at Camano Island State Park, with two stops on Whidbey Island and a paddle by Baby Island. Calm winds and seas with mostly clear skies made for a great day to be on the water. Many thanks to Michele Rushworth for organizing and leading this trip!
Lovely overcast, cool day for a successful CHS-1 Graduation hike. Part of the Early Tuesdays with Court and we had the entire 17-mile day to ourselves except for one other hiker. Well done!
Hike through forest to a lovely lake and up to the Thorp Mountain Lookout with amazing views!
Hiking to First and Second Burroughs gave our group a chance to explore time, geology and this National Park. The day was beautiful with clouds moving across the mountain. A few flowers still bloomed and the geology had lots to show.
One-day climb of North Twin Sister with a 5-mile bike approach. The whole trip (including the bike ride up and down the forest road) took 12 hours with plenty of break time.
Fun Everett Basic Rock Climb with a strong group (3 rope leads, 3 students). Close to perfect conditions.
My family scored walk-up overnight permits for Basin Creek Campground the day before our trip. We enjoyed a private 2-day backpacking trip including a couple of hours at the lovely Doubtful Falls. Good looks at Eldorado and lower AQI made for some interesting photos.
Climbed the North Ridge Direct over a leisurely three day window on Labor Day weekend.
Saying Goodbye to Hinman Glacier: A Labor Day Ascent
fun paddle, not crowded at Larrabee boat launch...day started out cool but warmed up quickly when the sun penetrated the clouds and haze. Water conditiona were as advertised. Pleasant day with fun people.
A weekday scramble up Red Mountain via the Commonwealth Trail.
The Eastside Trail runs along Deer Creek, Chinook Creek, and the Ohanapecosh River in eastern Mountain Rainier National Park. We did it as a through hike from the Deer Creek Trailhead to the Stevens Canyon Entrance.
Great company, fine weather, calm winds, smooth seas and good planning made for a wonderful 18 nautical mile sea kayak camping trip from Friday Harbor to Jones Island to Turn Island and back.
A three day climb on Liberty Crack.
