An incredible fall day at Washington Pass—crisp air, golden larches in full transition, and a stellar climb up Liberty Bell. We ascended via the Becky Route, enjoying four pitches of classic 5.6 terrain, capped off with a couple of scenic rappels. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to soak in the season.

Great way to close out the 2025 CHS season with a change-of-destination hike to sunny Snoqualmie Lake. Fall colors, a Northern pygmy owl, abundant mushrooms, and great conversations for ten hours, with just a hint of smoke and rain held off until we returned to the cars.
We all agreed that the trip was well worth the time and gas to get there. So much beautiful scenery, amazing wildlife, outstanding campsites, lots of sunshine, warm water to paddle and swim in and how many sea kayakers can say they have seen big horn sheep from their boat?
After hiking 2.25 miles down, we turned around due to excessive wildfire smoke.
This was a 4-day backpacking trip beginning, and ending, at the Thirtymile Trailhead (north of Winthrop). Cathedral Lake, with Amphitheater Mountain as a backdrop, is just amazing.

You'll hike briefly with the crowds headed to the haystack, then peel off and enjoy a much quieter forest walk, along with a good workout.
