Bikepacking & Scrambling
Amongst the frontrange of the Alpine Lakes lies Hardscrabble Peak with views of Chikamin, Lemah, and Overcoat mountains. Bikepack and moderate scramble to reach this beautiful place!

A moderate 8.1 mile hike with 2,226 feet of elevation gain. The ridge has a view of Table Mountain, Bonneville, and parts of the Columbia River Gorge.

Day Hiking
Hike an easy 1/2 mile through lush forest and wetlands to the rocky beach and bluffs of Harstine Island State Park in Mason County near Olympia. At low tide, proceed a little over a mile on the beach to the sand spit which will allow you to walk out to McMicken Island State Park. Although only 200 feet of elevation gain, the beach walk can be slow going.
Sea Kayaking
Hartstine Island is located in south Puget Sound north of Olympia and has two sea kayak launch points at Latimer Landing and at Jarrell Cove State Park. In addition to circumnavigating the island, you can make trips to Herron, McMicken, Stretch, and Reach Islands.
Scrambling
Hawkins Mountain is a prominent peak accessible from both the Salmon La Sac and Teanaway drainages with great views to the east and west

Day Hiking
A moderate, 4.6 mile round trip day hike in summer or 4-mile snowshoe in winter with 1,100 feet of elevation gain. The trail is a gentle slope heading through primeval forest and a cool ravine to a secluded lake.
Day Hiking
A 7-mile hike with 1,350 feet of gain that leads into the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness north of Stevens Pass and near the Pacific Crest Trail. For added adventure continue on to Glasses Lake, another 3.0 miles round trip.
Backpacking & Day Hiking
A strenuous loop hike that starts with hiking up to ridgeline at Second Top then to the Klahane Saddle with amazing views of the area surrounding Hurricane Ridge followed by a grinding drop to Lake Angeles and return back to the trailhead. It's nearly 13 miles and over 4,000 feet of elevation gain.
Scrambling
A moderately easy scramble of a red peak with 1,000 feet of prominence off of the Mountain Loop Highway. It is remote but offers great views on a sunny, summer day, and mines can be found along the way.

Heliotrope Ridge trail offers easy access to amazing glacier views on Mount Baker. The glaciated area is perfect for practicing glacier travel, crevasse rescue, and ice climbing if you have the gear and expertise.
Backpacking
A remote 40+ mile trail through Hells Canyon National Recreation Area in northeast Oregon. The deepest canyon in North America provides amazing desert scenery, wildlife and solitude. Multiple one-way and loop options are available in combination with the nearby High Trail and Western Rim Trail.
Scrambling
Hemlock Peak is a scramble of 7 miles with 3,300 feet of gain.
Sea Kayaking
An inlet in south Puget Sound near Olympia that is 4.5 nautical miles in length but has few sea kayak launch spots. Chapman and Woodard Bays on the inlets west shore are a nature preserve with a large seal population and limited seasonal access.
Urban Adventure & Urban Walking
Heritage Park in our State Capitol's Campus in Olympia is a great location for a walk or many of our course field trips and practice sessions.
