Day Hiking
This easy to moderate 7.5-mile loop hike on San Juan Island starts at historic American Camp, where you can find a visitors center, 19th-century buildings, and other remnants of the military camp that was used by American soldiers during the Pig War. The hike continues to the summit of Mount Finlayson (290 feet) and then to the lighthouse at Cattle Point. Return along the tree-shaded shoreline trail with views of Jakles Lagoon.

Anderson Mountain

It's known to peak baggers as a "dumpster dive" and a " Napoleon," because of its over 3,000-foot prominence and low elevation. It's a good winter training hike of 5 to 12 miles, all with 3,000 feet of elevation gain, in the Alger Alps near Bellingham and just north of Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley.

Team members should be dialed on efficient anchor-building using a minimum of materials. It's good to start early, hiking up in the dark, then dropping into the canyon at first light.

An easy day hike on the south side of Mount St. Helens. The trails take you through forests, into lava tubes and to a good viewpoint. The upper Ape Cave is *not* a day hike. You need to climb a slick 8-ft wall with only a single decent foothold. Good headlamps and a lack of claustrophobia are a must for the lava tubes.
