Packrafting
This route includes about 81 miles of the Methow River consisting of the following three sections:
1) River Bend Campground to Carlton, 50 miles of class 2 to class 3, consisting of the four following sub-sections:
Riverbend Campground to Mazama, 10.1 miles
Mazama to Winthrop, 15.2 miles
Winthrop to Twisp, 10.0 miles
Twisp to Carlton, 12.9 miles
2) Carlton to Averill (McFarland Creek) access, class 2
3) Averill (at McFarland Creek) access to Pateros (Black Canyon), class 3
Urban Adventure
The Methow Valley Rodeo is produced by the Methow Valley Horsemen, a group of men and women from the Methow Valley who are committed to continuing the tradition of small community rodeo. They produce two rodeos each year, on Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend and hold them in the Methow Valley between Twisp and Winthrop.
Cross-country Skiing & Snowshoeing
Enjoy 120 miles of world class trails in the peaceful and scenic Methow Valley. The trail system is divided into four areas, all connected by the Methow Community Trail, which includes a suspension bridge crossing the Methow River. The ski and snowshoe opportunities are endless!
Day Hiking & Snowshoeing
A state-managed wildlife area to the east of Twisp and Winthrop in the Methow Valley where a number of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking exist between April 1 and December 14, and for snowshoeing once snow hits the ground.
Urban Adventure
An elementary school in Tumwater that is sometimes used for the Olympia Branch's basic climbing and alpine scrambling's basic skills workshop.
Trail Running, Urban Walking & Urban Adventure
A 3 2/3 miles walk or trail run with 320 ft elevation gain around Microsoft's corporate headquarters in Redmond, WA. Along the way, participants can view the Visitor's Center, The Commons, the treehouses, and the many other facilities on the Redmond campus. Note that buildings, The Commons, and treehouses are private property and cannot be accessed by non-employees.
Backcountry Skiing, Snowshoeing & Trail Running
A moderate snowshoe or ski trip up to a hill with a former radio tower and views of Lake Keechelus and Mount Rainier. Route options include taking Forest Service Road 4832 to Forest Service Road 124 to the top, or bushwhacking more directly to either Microwave Hill or the true summit from Road 124.
Scrambling
A strenuous scramble a few miles east of Stevens Pass to a summit with outstanding views. It's 8 miles round trip and 4,800 feet of elevation gain.
Backpacking, Day Hiking & Bikepacking
Hike along this moderately strenuous, wild and beautiful section of Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Trail from the Middle Fork Trailhead to Dutch Miller Gap. It's 22 miles one-way and 3,600 feet of elevation gain which offer a wide variety of day hiking and backpacking options that range from easy to strenuous. Enjoy good views of Mount Garfield and the Alpine Lakes Wilderness along the way.
Backpacking & Day Hiking
A moderate hike with lots of stream crossings that is best done later in the season and in hot weather. Hike upriver from 4 to as many as 14 miles or make a loop trip with other nearby trails. The Middle Fork Teanaway Trail is open to motorcycles, and though lightly traveled because of the stream crossings, it it better to hike it midweek to avoid them.
Climbing
A beautiful, moderate alpine volcano climb in the Three Sisters Wilderness of central Oregon. Enjoy spectacular view of nearby volcanic peaks in the Sisters and Bend area. Consider a traverse that includes North Sister, South Sister and/or Broken Top.
Scrambling & Climbing
Middle Teton is the third-highest peak in the Teton Range within Grand Teton National Park. Immediately southwest of its better-known sibling, it is known for its classic alpine shape and the prominent black dike on its face, it offers routes ranging from non-technical scrambles to challenging technical climbs.
Day Hiking
A 7.4 mile and 1,200 foot elevation gain round trip day hike to the "middle" of Tiger Mountain State Forest.
Day Hiking
A challenging day hike to picturesque lakes beneath the Sawtooth range. This route does have lots of roots and rocks with some ups and downs both ways. It's 9 miles round trip and 2,500 feet of elevation gain.
Day Hiking
A moderate, 7 mile round trip day hike with 1,700 ft of elevation gain. The trail ascends the along Milk Creek to Milk Lake with views along the way of the Devil's Slide cliffs and old mudslide. This trail is open to motorcycles.
Day Hiking
An easy, 5 mile in-and-out day hike with 360 ft in elevation gain on the Olympic Peninsula. The trail descends through a second growth forest and a heavy forested ravine to the tidal flats of the spit. Enjoy views of Protection Island.
A small park near Olympia great for social outings and field trips. Deep Lake with it's protected areas is great for practicing sea kayaking techniques.
Day Hiking, Trail Running & Bikepacking
An easy loop hike in Olympia's Capitol State Forest near Olympia. It is a great year round hike.
Day Hiking
Hike a 2.75 mile loop with only ten feet elevation gain through one of Washington's great mysteries, the origin of which no one knows. Mima Mounds is a National Natural Landmark managed by as a Natural Area Preserve by the Department of Natural Resources.
Backpacking & Day Hiking
A moderate backpack through the beautiful West Lostine River Valley in Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness. It ascends to Minam Lake through forests, lush meadows filled with wildflowers and butterflies, along meandering and cascading stream, and below the craggy Wallowa Mountains. It's 11.6 miles round trip with 1,800 feet of elevation gain.
