Despite a less than inviting forecast (60% chance of rain up to 6/10ths of an inch, thundercells possible, more rain possible in thundercell), this trip on a challenging exposed rock and steep forest scramble went successfully with not a drop of rain. Summer forecasts need to be interpreted differently than winter ones...!
Approach day was pleasant with camp at 6500 ft elev. Midnight start delayed due to light showers. Glacier start at 0130 became complicated with routefinding through crevasse field and poor visibility. We turned back after 1-2 hrs to wait for daylight. The weather turned stormy at that point and only worsened with rain and gusty wind. We packed up and headed down. The trip out was pleasant.
The Frying Pan and Whitman glaciers are in excellent condition.
Very pleasant scramble of 3 peaks (1st Mother instead of Fay).
Successful. All participants took two falls - one on trad, another on a nut. Went to Repo 1 wall, on "First Things First" (5.6). Pro up to 1-2". Backup toprope utilized big tree, rather than chains.
Bird Creek meadows TH is closed for the remainder of the year.
Loop trip up the PCT (which was completely logged out) to Mirror Lake and then out the Cold creek trail.
An amazing time in the snow. Snow from Elk pass to Cispus Pass in places.
Very enjoyable trip but beware of lingering snow and bugs
Tough trip in poor conditions despite a decent forecast; PNW weather strikes again! But, we were glad to be safe and successful.
A nice 7.5 hour day of 1/3 old trail and 2/3 forest tromping.
High winds forced turnaround at camp.
Trail fairly clear of snow and has a nice gradual incline. Trail is in good condition.
A classic trip through beautiful but exposed waters. We went up the western side of Cattle pass in some very active water.
Great weekend of sailing and fireworks. Good cruising practice too.
3JUL2016 successful trip. More snow than anticipated so ice axe and boots advised. Run out second pitch to corner before building second anchor. Don't use rappel anchor as communication is impossible.
