Standard route. Successful scramble on a nice day.
The North Scatter Creek trail is in fairly good shape with only a few downed trees blocking the route. Some of them are large. A trail crew was working on the lower portion when we arrived. The upper route through the NW basin of the peak remains accessible. Descent via the S ridge remains open.
Successful summit of Old Desolate, a long trip on the Wonderland Trail along the Carbon River. Weather was cloudy, misty and sunny great conditions for not getting overheated

The late-season, mid week, full moon, all-nighter, sunrise climb of Mount Hood/South Side (Palmer Glacier).
Warm evening and calm seas. Paddled from BH to Coon Cove on southeast part of Squaxin Island. Launched at 6:15 and returned just before sunset. Beautiful evening for a paddle.
Continues past turn-off to Kachess Beacon at 2 miles. Little-visited trail, very steep at beginning then gradual climb along creek to sub-alpine meadows. Long, tough loops possible (but didn't do this time).
A wet morning turned into a cloudy climb, and clearing views by afternoon. Steady progress took us car to car in 12.5 hours.

Paddle from Washington Park (Anacortes) to Friday Harbor via Cattle Pass and return via ferry.
Beautiful forecast for mostly sunny, started getting sunny around 11am, then all whiteout.
Snow/ice on upper Whitman glacier rock hard making running belay impossible. Required careful ice axe/crampon technique to ascend/descend safely. Protected summit block scramble with cordelette for an anchor; Camalot #s 1 and 2 and a double sling for protection.
This is a great sampler of the best of the Chuckanut Mtn. "backcountry" with multiple view spots and beautiful forest. Our loop was 13 miles and 2,530'.
