This was an epic scramble with great summit views. A significant thunderstorm during the descent added "interest" to the trip.
Great workout, but minimal snow reduced the opportunities for practicing snow skills.
Planned trip for -3.1 low tide, hoping to see good tidal pools on Chuckanut Island. Unfortunately, turned around at 1.4 miles due to strong wind and high waves.
We shared the trail with about a million mosquitoes and finally had the summit to ourselves! Type 1 fun! 12.5 hours car to car, 1 mountain goat
We did the 9-mile loop. Trail is in good shape. Nice views of Puget Sound, Hood Canal, and Olympics.
This is a beautiful and much less-traveled route - definitely worth the bit of extra effort, in my opinion.
Turned around due to weather. Approach and approach gully in good shape
Excellent trip with a stong group. The nice weather was a benefit and a curse as the snow quality deteriorated for a summit push.
Traverse below peak more challenging and time consuming than expected. Learning lesson: should have checked personal GPS sooner to compare to topo.
A scramble of Second & Third Mother Mountains.
Photo Report! Approach on a little bit of trail, then mostly on snow. Moat was fine and gained easy access to the ridge. Used crampons up high. 8 am to 4 pm car to car, even after encountering 10 people from Mazamas already on the rock routes. Great trip on a mostly sunny day!
Climb changed from Mt Daniel to Colchuck last minute to doge weather and find something to climb. Glacier is hard and steep and holding up well. Small patch of snow still lingering prior to short scramble step.
Turned around on Forbidden Peak due to route congestion
An interesting and scenic paddle with that can be timed to take advantage of currents.
Climbed/Skied Gilbert peak via Mead Glacier - TR here because approach is same as Conrad Glacier and Meade is not an option in Mountaineers DB
Turned around due to unstable snowpack leading to avalanche concerns and a summit block that is still covered in snow and ice. Made for a great weekend backpacking trip with fantastic views and a surprise thunderstorm instead.
Great day to hike, perfect weather. Arrive early at trail head for parking it was crowded. Composting toilets are open, first time in a few years the one's at Lower Lena have not be locked. Bridge still out but there is a log we watched people cross. Would love to have forest service put a bid out for a new bridge to replace the old one! First bridge you cross was 1993 , second one 1991 built. They are still standing strong !
Nice day for a Hike! long time on dirt road, but nice wildflowers along the way made it interesting.
