Surreal and complex geologic landscapes, plus winter wildlife snow prints (deer, fox?, bobcat?, rabbit) on this ~12 mile/~4.7Kâ gain loop.
On 10/31/20 the road to the TH was free of snow.
Trail is in good condition. Minimal water and mud on lower trail sections. Last 0.75 miles may require micro spikes for traction as ice is present on trail.
Great hike and great group! Beautiful, sunny, crisp fall day. Clear views of surrounding peaks and Annette Lake.
13 - 16 pitch 5.9 Grade IV rock climb of one of the most renown routes in Red Rocks. Slab pitch start, three pitches of sustained chimney, crack and fun face climbing make it a must do in the Red Rocks area.
Enatai beach was almost totally blocked by construction, so launched at Gene Coulon Park instead.
A last chance to visit Burroughs Mountain (3rd, 2nd, 1st) with a greatly reduced volume of other parties (Sunrise road closure, winterish white-out conditions). A great loop (13 miles, 4000â) which included White River Campground, the trail to Glacier Basin, Burroughs, and Shadow Lake.
Beautiful colors with white snow in the background. Hike to Falls Creek Trail and back was moderate and the creeks were not bad to cross, occasionally with the help of hiking poles.
Windy, but well protected in the Bay. Chop increased to solid 1 ft plus waves around noon, but weather was great. Visited Paradise Cove and Sequim Bay State Park boat launch
Cold, windy, icy, and in a whiteout all the way, but winter scrambling route in pretty decent shape, and we enjoyed our hard-earned views from above the clouds.
Clockwise loop of four peaks on a crisp fall day
Took advantage of 2 days of nice weather, to complete a solo scramble of Boulder Peak. Mitigating my exposure to the Corona Virus with Solo trips into the Olympics this year. Olympics afford boundless opportunity in Social Distancing.
This shoulder season one-night overnight backpack trip was a perfect outing before the weather turned. The 10-12 year olds had little difficulty with the route and the lake was gorgeous.
A grand fall color tour in Mount Rainier National Park, of peaks and ridges in the area just south of the Carbon River. This was a S5/T5 scramble (~5400â gain/~16 miles), but a technically easier (yet longer) S5/T1 variation would skip Gove and use the Ipsut Creek Trail instead.
