Last minute, Plan B pivot to Chutla Peak after Longmire gate opening was canceled for weather. Met lots of snow after the saddle and turned around.
We had a productive day removing "volunteer" trees growing on the roadbed on RD-7245. We cleared the section between the creek that flows from Windy Gully up to the junction to the Sidestep trail. We then walked up to the Glen Bandy memorial tree to take in the view an have some lunch. Partial views of the Enchantments -- mostly clouds obscuring -- but some smoke from the Labor Mtn Fire.
The scramble itself was insignificant, but the mushrooming along the trail was spectacular.
Perfect, clear, cool autumn day for this fantastic trip with fellow adventurers!
This time of year, Barclay Lake trail is a great place to see mosses, lichens and ferns. It's a short hike and can be enjoyed rain or shine.
This was an out and back hike from the Cutthroat Pass Trailhead to Cutthroat Pass. This section of trail is part of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).
An incredible fall day at Washington Pass—crisp air, golden larches in full transition, and a stellar climb up Liberty Bell. We ascended via the Becky Route, enjoying four pitches of classic 5.6 terrain, capped off with a couple of scenic rappels. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to soak in the season.

Wonderful fall foliage, great conversation, and 16 bird species including evening grosbeaks, a pair of red-tailed hawks, and a sooty grouse topped the list in today's hike above the inversion.
Gorgeous weather, gorgeous foliage, lots of blueberries, and we saw grouse, deer, and frogs, and saw tracks of bear, raccoon, and deer.

Overdue grass- and brush-cutting, and log-outs of a few downed trees, completed the work this year to make this historic trail free of obstructions from the Satsop Lake side on the west to the Church Creek side on the east.
While the currents were not as fast as other years or the moon as bright we were satisfied with what we got!

Great way to close out the 2025 CHS season with a change-of-destination hike to sunny Snoqualmie Lake. Fall colors, a Northern pygmy owl, abundant mushrooms, and great conversations for ten hours, with just a hint of smoke and rain held off until we returned to the cars.
