A lazy class II float popular with family boaters. Cold water as it comes out of a dam from the bottom of reservoirs. Most of the run is class I.
A quick afternoon run down the "Cle ELum Racetrack". Flow was 3,600 CFS and our moving speed was 6 MPH so we were only on the water 1 hour.
Rocky, rooty, steep and dangerous in places, this is more of a scramble than a hike for a significant part of the route.
Successful trip ascending Eagle, Chutla, and Wahpenayo in nine hours car-to-car from Longmire.
Moderately strong winds, warm air, warm water and a great group made for a fine day on the river. A pleasure to play on the waves in shorts and shirt!
A glorious blue-sky day with panoramic views to Rainier, south to Hood, east over Chinook Pass and north to Crystal mountain and beyond. The trail was easy (manicured!) up past Owyhigh Lakes, the turnoff to Tamanos was obvious, and though the tread up to Tamanos was a very steep trench most of the way to the saddle it wasn't as slippery to come down as many scree slopes (dirt with larger rocks). We went up to the first 'peak' but the crossing to the main peak was too much of a scramble for us to attempt as a hike (some of the group members checked it out).
Short, steep, pleasant, and pretty legit scramble within a short driving distance.
The goal was to hike to beautiful Colchuck Lake , and view Dragontail Peak , Colchuck Peak , and Asgard Pass . Hiking is great in the Enchantments We acheived our goals of hiking to Colchuck Lake , and viewing Dragontail Peak , Colchuck Peak , and Assgard Pass !
A delightful eastside backpack for our five-person group without crowds in early summer. We observed surprising abundance and variety of wildflowers, birds, insects and magnificent canyon scenery along series of connecting trails extending from Teepee Trailhead to Oregon Butte Lookout, Indian Corral and Panjab Creek in area quickly recovering after recent 2021 fire in SE WA Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness.
A three-day climb of Mount Logan in the heart of the North Cascades.
A successful climb of the South Ridge. The snow level is significantly lower than past years with nearly no snow on the approach.
Beautiful, challenging climb with outstanding people!
Beautiful day paddling south sound Steilacoom to Anderson Island Jacob's Point Park. Saw a few planes from the JBLM air show (hoped to see more).
The South Fork of the Skokomish River drains a large area of the Olympic National Forest. A mixed use (hiker, horse, bike) trail runs along the valley, through stands of old growth fir, cedar and hemlock. This is a nice five mile section which can be hiked out and back. We recorded about 1300 feet elevation gain.
This is a very nice snow/rock scramble in the North Cascades SE of Mt. Baker. This trip has all the elements that are covered in the scramble course, off trail, route finding, rock and snow travel.
A very fun trek with fellow Mountaineers on a gorgeous day!
Strong group, nice views, and oddly almost no mosquitoes on this one.
