Backcountry Skiing, Scrambling & Snowshoeing
A winter goal for skiers, snowshoers and scramblers, that starts at the Paradise Visitor Center of Mount Rainier National Park. This moderate 8 mile trip, with 2,400 feet of elevation gain, has open 360-degree views of the glaciers of Mount Rainier, the Tatoosh Range and other nearby peaks.
Scrambling
A remote and beautiful alpine scramble traverse from Paradise to the Fryingpan Creek trailhead that visits several summits in the Cowlitz Park area. This multi-day traverse also includes a ford of the Cowlitz River near its beginnings at the snout of the Cowlitz Glacier.
Packrafting
A low stakes float through beautiful moss-covered mountain canyons with forest above and views of Mt. Rainier. Most white water is within first couple miles of the put in and predominantly class II-.
Day Hiking
Coyote Wall is a moderate, 6 mile round trip hike with 1,630 ft in elevation gain. The trail runs up along a ridge with sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge.

A moderate, 6.6 mile round trip day hike with 1,150 feet of elevation gain. These are two nearby trails hike up the hills above the Columbia River Gorge.

Crab Creek Wildlife Area is an easy backpack with 400 feet of gain.

This strenuous 3,200-foot climb in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness off of Icicle Creek near Leavenworth can be done via Jack Creek, French Creek, Snowall Creek, Meadow Creek, and Blackjack Ridge. With these trails, there are many options for out-and-back and loop day hikes and backpack trips.

A moderate, round trip or loop backpacking or day hiking trip of up to 14 miles and 2,200 feet of elevation gain. The trail takes you through scenic meadows with lakes, on the Pacific Crest Trail and around Cramer Mountain and past Cramer, Dumbbell and Buesch Lakes.

Scrambling
Crater Mountain is a strenuous and technical scramble to a former lookout point, well worth the effort for the views of the North Cascades as well as the challenging rocky terrain. It can be done either as a long day trip or with a camp at a high lake. Try it with fall colors!

A bay known for some incredible kayak surfing on a sandy beach. Sea kayaking to the west or east can be scenic and challenging. A paddle to Freshwater Bay just west of Port Angeles is well known for rock gardening.

A long, moderate scramble with high ridges, meadows, big views of Mount Rainier and even a bike ride.

Day Hiking & Urban Walking
The trail is on the site of the North Pacific Railroad grade used by the Dinner Train that ran between Renton and Woodinville for many years. The rails and ties have been removed and the trail is now a compacted crushed gravel surface.

British Columbia has some of the best backcountry skiing in the world. There are lots of backcountry ski lodges, most are located about tree line, with amazing views. The Canadian Rockies are a young mountain range, with up-thrust sedimentary layers of rock and glaciers. Glacial flour (pulverized rock) suspends in water for the most beautiful turquoise lakes on earth. Winter provides cold dry powder snow, fantastic touring and backcountry skiing, and dark night skies!

Join us for winter break in spectacular Maine wilderness! XC ski or show-shoe between sporting camps with cozy bunkhouses; XC-ski, snowshoe, ice-skate, dog-sled or winter hike from your front door. Relax in the wood-fired sauna, read by the wood stove. See moose, deer, red fox or their signs in the snow. Gear is shuttled so you travel with only a day-pack. Families may apply.
