Combination photography & naturalist trip to the refuge.
This trip was up the first part of the Duckabush Trail in the pouring rain.
Rain in Seattle, snow on Reflection Lakes. We took the lakes trail from Narada falls up over the ridge (210 m) and down to the lakes and back again. 5.35km. Total elevation gain about 420 m. Snow was consolidated. Previous snowshoers had packed out a nice track.
April 2017 CHS1 hike from Snoqualmie Point Park to Stan's Overlook and return.
Turned around at Lone Tree Pass
Successful Foss Peak summit in mixed conditions.
Reasonably good conditions, though a lot of work due to unconsolidated snow. Avy release the day before in the gully reveling a ice layer 6" below surface. Snow wall in good shape for unroped assent.
Spring snow scramble of Mutton Mountain.
Great weather window (despite dismal forecast) and strong party resulted in an excellent trip.
A lovely evening ramble around Carkeek with 10 aspiring naturalists.
Great midweek hike to the ledge with beautiful views, then up to East Peak for a nice spring conditioning hike.
A rainbow, a really big north to south rainbow. And a little rain for a most pleasant walk along the lake and a quiet neighborhood.
We went up Mazama Ridge yesterday, instead of to the ridge east of Castle as had been planned, due to wet avalanche potential.
A rare visit to Falls Creek Falls and majestic winter views of Willis Wall on the northern aspect of Mount Rainier.
A very enjoyable scramble on a nice day with good views. Students did well with challenging conditions (lots of unconsolidated snow on steep terrain).
Knowing that cornices would prevent us from reaching the summit, we embarked on this trip anyway, knowing that the lake and ridge run are gorgeous.
