Snow scramble to Lichtenberg. Standard NE ridge line. Lots of route finding below the lake gap. Good log crossing at TH sign. Road snowed in .3 miles in from Hwy 2
We beat the crowds for a great morning conditioner
Great dinner spot as we enjoyed a warm spring evening.
On a beautiful day with good snow conditions, we enjoyed magnificent views and solitude from Cabinet Peak.
Beautiful views from the top of the Tooth.
Fantastic day above the clouds! Originally planned to scramble up Muir Peak, but changed it to the more interesting and scenic side trip to Anvil Rock on the way down from Muir.
Successful Devil’s Peak/South Ridge adventure in complete whiteout conditions
A strenuous and beautiful traverse of ~19 miles and ~5000’ gain with snow that still makes this a scramble (instead of a hike). The only other parties we encountered were folks that had walked over from the visitor center.
A little bit of everything summed up this outing.
Successful hike on a beautiful day. All 4 CHS hikers who have each had very little previous hiking experience completed the hike without significant problems.
Great trip for the beginning backpacker. Easy, gradual accent to lake with bathrooms available near well maintained campgrounds. Good sized fire pits available for building community and smores!
We only did Fortune. Went up main trail to ridge then scrambled on snow and rock to summit. Last few minutes on summit clouds broke so we were able to get some good views of Stuart and Ingalls as well as surrounding peaks. For descent we went down ridge then had a great glissade and returned via the Esmeralda basin trail. Had to navigate A number of stream crossings on the way back.
The couloir is pretty much out
Nice hike in the snow and the rain, but no summit.
On a beautiful day, we had Mt. Ellinor mostly to ourselves. Overall, a great scramble, but the glissade chute has deteriorated to the point where we could only glissade a small portion of it.
