This was a student paddle.
Successful summit of Grant Peak up the Squak Glacier route.

Great day of hiking up to Surprise Mountain. 15 miles and approx. 4.000 elevation. Passed Surprise Lake and an avalanche field of downed trees (slowed us down a little)! Passed Glacier Lake and made our way to Surprise Gap. Made it to Surprise Mountain and had a nice lunch while looking over the mountain tops (Mt Daniel, Mt Hinman and Glacier Peak to name a few) and enjoying the amazing views. Temps were good and air quality was great. Thank you Rita and Sara! 😅
The trip was not successful. The snow pack was melted out and the final approach to the ridgeline between the East and Main Peak showed about 40% blue glacier ice, with a run out on 100% blue glacier ice. Tried a different approach from the west but after looking it over opted not to proceed.
Weekend trip trip to climb Mount Fernow, approaching via the Carne High route, camping in Leroy Basin, and hiking out Sunday after summiting.
A great workout with breathtaking views of the Elwha River’s continuing progress towards its former wildness (many thanks to the Glines Canyon Dam/impounded Lake Mills removal). From Hurricane Ridge this trip used the Hurricane Hill-Elwha trail for descent, and the Wolf Creek trail for ascent (a total of ~5500’ gain over 20+ miles).
Pretty typical summer climb of the Tooth
Extremely scenic trip offering lake swims, mountain views, and even some bear sitings! This is a great backpack for those wanting a bit of challenge with an enormous payoff.
Steve planned and did a very good walk thru the Phinney neighborhood. Interesting homes and gardens and the food at the Red Mill Brgers was yummy.
The perfect waterpark on a hot afternoon
I went over the Rule of Thumb to help determine ferry angles and how to angle your boat to get across moving water. All of the students then applied the practice to successfully negotiate across the approx 2.5 knot current to Libby Point. The only complaint was that we didn’t have stronger currents but you get what you get in this sport so no hard feelings there.
Beautiful sunny mid-week morning summer hike to Annette Lake.
Great weekday trip on Mount Rainier. Varied terrain and a good way to scope out Little Tahoma!
Great day trip with beautiful hiking and easy scrambling.
