This is my second year in a row to do this paddle on a beautiful fall day! Going forward I will stay outside the piling markers no matter what time of the year!

Had a great October climb. Clouds rolled in and out adding to the experience. Fall colors are in full swing. We manage car to car in just about 10 hours.
Snow on pitch 2 led us to bail at the top of pitch 1. Better luck next year!

An adventurous day on the west side of Mount Rainier, with stunning views of the Sunset Amphitheater, interspersed with cloud induced drama. Substantial fresh snow over steep heather and boulders made things ‘interesting’.

A strong, competent group of participants and cool temperatures made for a pleasant loop of Esmerelda and Fortune peaks with stunning views of Stuart and early larches. Because of rain, we opted to skip Not-Hinkhouse on the way out.
The weather forecast was not very inviting, but these dedicated and prepared Tacoma CHS students were prepared and hopeful. We made it to the Kendall Katwalk with the sun shining on our accomplishment!!
a "stroll in the park" turned into a mud scramble in the jungle. The "trails" south of the parking lot area are complicated to navigate, especially in the rain.
The face is still climbable, though narrow, making deconfliction of rope teams harder. Lots of pebble/cobble-sized rock fall to be alert to. Beginnings of a bergschrund on the top did not affect the climb. Have to wonder how many more years this will be worth it and safe to climb.
Smooth conditions, a fishing derby, and a naval unit gave us a tremendous leisurely paddle across Possession Sound.
Geocaching. A new feature for Urban Walks. This was the inaugural trip.
