Sailing

Scrambling
Hadley Peak is a scramble of 13 miles with 4,700 feet of gain.
Canyoning
A beautiful, sculpted waterpark canyon with slides, jumps, and technical ropework near Packwood. This canyon is rated v3a3III at moderate water levels, and v4a4III in early to midsummer.
Sea Kayaking
Formerly known as Hakai Recreational Area, this area spans the southern two thirds of Hunter Island south to the northern half of Calvert Island. It also includes Goose and Gosling Islands. It is an archipelago of awesome kayaking where you can choose to paddle inland or along the coast.
Backpacking & Day Hiking
An easy 3-mile round trip walk with 350 feet of elevation gain through trees to the lagoon in a state park on Key Peninsula. This is a great place to relax on the beach, view the totem pole, and look for sand dollars. The beach on Case Inlet has several campsites, and is a great place to camp with young kids.
Canyoning
A short, scenic beginner canyon, rated v4a3I in low to moderate flows
Day Hiking
A moderate 8.2 mile hike with 2,100 feet of elevation gain. The trail passes by two waterfalls with views of Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge. Consider adding a side to Beacon Rock, a sheer basalt rock column that towers over the Columbia River.
Day Hiking, Trail Running & Urban Walking
An 80-acre public park in Shoreline. Most of the park is wooded area with dotted with trails and an orienteering course. It's the largest and oldest park in the city of Shoreline, is named for the pioneering Hamlin family who had a homestead in the area in the late 19th century. Two historic guns from the USS Boston are mounted near the park's main playground. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.
Day Hiking & Stewardship
The Hamma Hamma Campground is located along the shore of the Hamma Hamma River in the Olympic National Forest.
Sea Kayaking
Hammersley Inlet is near Shelton and connects Oakland Bay to southern Puget Sound. Sea kayaking is often accessed via Arcadia boat launch, or Walker County Park, Jacoby Shorecrest County Park, or downtown Shelton.

Bikepacking
A very strenuous bikepack to the beautiful Haney Meadow area. From US-97 near the Mineral Springs Campground, it's 40 miles round trip with 4,300 feet of elevation gain.
Backcountry Skiing & Snowshoeing
A strenuous snowshoe or ski of 7-12 miles with up to 2,000 feet of elevation gain. This route takes you along ski trails and through meadows up to a saddle. From there two peaks may be climbed, ski routes descended and a loop to the north to complete your trip.
Backpacking
Hike on trail above Ruth Creek through forest, cutting up to a high alpine pass with views in the North Cascades. From the pass, hike to the summit of Hannegan Peak or hike out Copper Ridge for spectacular ridge walking with views of the icy Pickett Range and peaks in all directions. Descend to the Chilliwack River walkign throgh miles of ancient trees and then back up to Whatcom Pass. Peel off the trail before the pass and scramble the very prominent but seldom-climbed Mount Chardonnay.
Cross-country Skiing & Snowshoeing
Closed to motorized traffic in winter this road, Forest Road 32 in the North Cascades near Mount Baker, offers up to 6 miles of beginner-friendly winter recreation. The road is occasionally groomed for cross-country skiers. Take in views of the Nooksack River and Mount Shuksan.
Day Hiking
A moderate hike of 8 miles, 1700' gain on recently converted road-to-trail multi-use trail and boot path to views from Little St. Helens.
Day Hiking
The Hansville Greenway is a corridor of county-owned natural areas, trail easements, and conservation easements reaching from Puget Sound at Norwegian Point Park to Hood Canal.
Backpacking, Day Hiking & Scrambling
A beautiful and strenuous loop trip with sweeping views of the Elwha River Valley and Mount Olympus, as well as a visit to Boulder Lake. For those interested, includes a well deserved soak in Olympic Hot Springs at the end of the day.
Scrambling
A challenging 15 mile scramble 5,400 feet of elevation gain to an infrequently scrambled peak in the central Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
