A 50 foot, mid 5th class, rock climb on sound rock on the south boundary of Mount Rainier National Park. Views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount Saint Helens, and sometimes Mount Hood. Ice axe and crampons often needed in July to climb up steep gully just beyond Snow Lake. Times: 4-6 hr trailhead to summit. Consider traversing to The Castle instead of descending the climbing route. A great first alpine climb.

This state park a short distance from Las Vegas has spectacular red rock formations. The white Domes Loop travels into slot canyons and desert washes, and the Mouse's Tank passes fabulous red walls covered with petroglyphs. The camping area offers the Petrified Logs Loop, desert fauna and flora, and the Natural Arches Trail allows for hiking in a broad dry riverbed. Scrambling is available anywhere there are rock jumbles, but rock climbing is mostly limited.

This is often done as a snowshoe or winter scramble in the winter months as an alternative to the more well-traveled Muir Snowfield.

Bikepack a moderate 39 mile loop with 2,890 feet of elevation gain in the Olympic National Forest with an overnight at Brown Creek Campground. Ride on historic, secluded gravel logging roads, cross the Skokomish River on the 375-foot High Steel Bridge, the highest arch bridge in Washington, stop at Lake Cushman for a swim and the views, and visit Spider Lake to rest after a long climb. It's also know as the Olympic Bridges Overnight.
