A trail that leads out of Yakima and Umtanum Canyons up to the top of Umtanum Ridge, offering views of Mount Stuart, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount Hood.

The "bluebird trail" along Umptanum Road from Ellensburg to Selah is a great place to observe and photograph both the western bluebird and the mountain bluebird during nesting season, March and April.

A 50 foot, mid 5th class, rock climb on sound rock on the south boundary of Mount Rainier National Park. Views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount Saint Helens, and sometimes Mount Hood. Ice axe and crampons often needed in July to climb up steep gully just beyond Snow Lake. Times: 4-6 hr trailhead to summit. Consider traversing to The Castle instead of descending the climbing route. A great first alpine climb.

In winter this is a moderate winter scramble or backcountry ski trip. In la spring through fall, this is an easy to moderate, non-technical alpine scramble trip when done in summer or fall. The views from Jove Peak are better than those from Union Peak.

Union Creek is a strenuous 14-mile with 2,500 feet of elevation gain day hike just outside Mount Rainier National Park in the Naches Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests.

The Union Hill Novelty Hill unincorporated area is east of Redmond city limits, west of the Snohomish River Valley and north of Sammamish. Amongst its landscape of bucolic horse pastures and smaller neighborhoods, there are many trails including the Redmond Ridge Trails.

The University of Washington's Olympic Natural Resource Center is located in Forks on the Olympic Peninsula. It offers lodging facilities, meeting spaces, conference equipment, and is surrounded by 2.5 miles of nature trails. It is a great base camp for day hikes and stewardship trips on the coast, and course lectures and field trips.

The quad has over a dozen cherry trees that are beautiful when in full bloom and of interest to both the photographer and naturalist. There is also some interesting architecture and artwork, and stairs that make for a good workout.

Walk along Grandview Drive in University Place near Chambers Bay Park and not far from Tacoma. Fall is a good time for this walk to view the fall colors.

An easy hike of 6.8 miles and 600 feet of elevation gain along a gentle grade in the woods that turns around at Camp Handy, a meadow with a shelter.

A hike or backpack that starts gently on a forest trail hugging beautiful Icicle Creek, passing a small cascade and the confluence with French Creek and gaining only 400 feet in the first five miles. The trail continues on another five miles eventually climbing steeply to end at Josephine Lake. From Icicle or Chatter Creeks, hike Mormon Lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

A moderate 8 mile day hike with 1,100 feet of elevation gain in the Olympic National Forest. Enjoy some of the largest trees you are likely to ever see and a river flowing through a box canyon. This is popularly known as Staircase Rapids.

This state park a short distance from Las Vegas has spectacular red rock formations. The white Domes Loop travels into slot canyons and desert washes, and the Mouse's Tank passes fabulous red walls covered with petroglyphs. The camping area offers the Petrified Logs Loop, desert fauna and flora, and the Natural Arches Trail allows for hiking in a broad dry riverbed. Scrambling is available anywhere there are rock jumbles, but rock climbing is mostly limited.

Van Damme State Park, in Mendocino CA area Upper loop area nicely accommodates large groups of 100 or so. Great sea coast and hiking access.

A moderate 6 mile hike with 2,150 feet of elevation gain. Start at Longmire in Mount Rainier National Park and at the fork near the end, choose to head to Van Trump Park or Mildred Point. This is often done as a snowshoe or winter scramble in the winter months as an alternative to the more well-traveled Muir Snowfield.

Bikepack a moderate 39 mile loop with 2,890 feet of elevation gain in the Olympic National Forest with an overnight at Brown Creek Campground. Ride on historic, secluded gravel logging roads, cross the Skokomish River on the 375-foot High Steel Bridge, the highest arch bridge in Washington, stop at Lake Cushman for a swim and the views, and visit Spider Lake to rest after a long climb. It's also know as the Olympic Bridges Overnight.
