Day Hiking, Naturalist & Urban Walking
If you just need some quiet time in nature and are not looking for a big workout, this little walk will be perfect. There is good access to the Snohomish River where you can find a place to throw a line in the water plus some good birding opportunities near the small lakes.
Backpacking
This moderate 23 mile route with 1,000 feet of elevation gain follows the Bogachiel River through stunning and seldom-visited rain forest to the Mink Lake-Little Divide junction before heading down to Sol Duc Hot Springs. Hike along one of the Olympics' great rainforest rivers cutting through a rain forest of ancient giant trees draped in moss and frequented by legions of elk, before ascending into a remote and wild valley.
Scrambling
Hike past Eagle Lakes and over Horsehead Pass to Boiling Lake in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. From there are a plethora of peaks to scramble including Mount Bigelow, Beefhide Butte, Seance Peak, Martin Peak, and Finney Peak. A typical trip is roughly 35 miles and 8,500 feet of elevation gain.
Climbing
Bonanza has the distinction of being the tallest non-volcanic peak in Washington. Martin Peak is located immediately east of the much more famous Bonanza Peak. Both routes are near Holden Village and are among the Bulger Top 100 Peak in Washington. These routes offer a classic alpine Cascade climbing experience at the intermediate level, testing the mettle of those who attempt them.
Climbing & Scrambling
The Chicken Out Ridge route is technical with sustained exposure, and it's 8 miles roundtrip with 5,300 feet of elevation gain. Borah Peak is the state highpoint of Idaho.
Sea Kayaking
This is a good place for a short or informal Puget Sound sea kayak journey, or the starting point for longer adventures. Boston Harbor is located near Olympia.
Day Hiking
A very strenuous hike in the Stehekin Valley region with great views. It's 16 miles round trip with over 6,000 feet of elevation gain. Getting to the trailhead in Stehekin requires travel by boat or seaplane.
Day Hiking
Explore a unique million year old lava tube cave on an easy hike with easy access from SR 410, the highway over Chinook Pass. It's two miles round trip and 300 feet of elevation gain.
Scrambling
A steep hike to Boulder Lake, followed by easy scrambling to views from the western edge of the Glacier Peak Wilderness. It's 8 miles round trip and 3,300 feet of elevation gain.

Scramble to a lesser-known peak in the heart of Buckhorn Wilderness in the Olympics. Be prepared for a long day and beautiful views into the heart of the Olympics.
Backpacking & Day Hiking
A moderately easy, 8.6 mile hike with 700 ft in elevation gain. This hike takes you along the tumbling river through old-growth forest and features a waterfall.
Backcountry Skiing
A 40 mile backcountry ski traverse across Canada's Wapta icefield involving glacier travel and with 5,600 feet of elevation gain. This stunning route starts at Bow Lake in Banff National Park, travels to the Bow, Guy, and Stanley Mitchell huts maintained by the Alpine Club of Canada, and exits in Yoho National Park via Emerald Lakes or Takakkaw Falls.

A short 0.9-mile boardwalk that takes you to excellent viewing of shorebirds during their spring migration. Best viewed from 2 hours before and after high tide.
Day Hiking
Hike trails in the northern half of Deception Pass State Park along the shore of Bowman Bay. Enjoy beautiful views of the San Juan Islands across Rosario Strait. You may also cross the Deception Pass Bridge on foot for the best views of the often turbulent pass and a view of Pass Island.
Canyoning
A classic canyon in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. It is rated v3a3III from mid-August through September (before fall rains).
Day Hiking & Urban Walking
An easy, 8 mile urban hike with minimal elevation gain on a paved trail through the power line right-of-way in Federal Way. An optional, short, dirt side trail goes to a lake in a wildlife refuge.
Scrambling
A moderately strenuous scramble along the Mountain Loop Highway, usually done as a spring or early summer snow scramble.
Sea Kayaking
Enjoy sea kayaking near the museum ship Turner Joy in Bremerton Harbor and then across Sinclair Inlet with views of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and a tour of Elandan Gardens Bonsai Museum.
Urban Adventure
Enjoy several attractions on the Bremerton waterfront worthy of a walk an some photography. All are within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

Explore beyond Brewer/Mineral pass to more magnificent Brewer Basin backcountry for sweeping ridge views, Mount Brewer and Ben Abel Lake. See abundant colorful summer wildflowers and premier displays of autumn's glorious golden larches among stunning scenery.
